Taxi and auto operators' All-India Federation (AAF) has called for a three-day strike May 21-23, which is likely to snow the commuters of the national capital in Delhi in. Demands for the protest call, organized by groups such as Chaalak Shakti Union and All India Motor Transport Congress, are to speed up the revision of taxi and auto fares.

Delhi-NCR unions say that despite the several hikes in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices and an increase in their maintenance and other expenses, the fares have not been updated in nearly 15 years. But Anuj Kumar Rathore, vice president of Chaalak Shakti Union, said middle-class drivers face hardships in maintaining their families.

A strike could mean an entire shutdown of taxi and auto services, which would have a major impact on day-to-day commuters, business people, and people travelling to and from airports. There have been allegations of exploitation by app-based cab aggregators, as well, that unions have pointed out. They have sought an immediate response from the Delhi lieutenant governor and the government and threatened to hold more intense protests if demands are not fulfilled.

People are asked to arrange for alternate transportation, such as their vehicles, buses, or the metro, during the strike.
