To conserve fuel resources and curb fuel utilization, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a substantial pilot program for government officials that will allow them to work remotely on May 14, 2026. The Delhi government offices will follow two-day WFH Mondays next week.

This move comes after global uncertainties and the surge in fuel prices prompted PM Modi to ask the public to cut back their expenses. This will involve less traveling by government vehicles, a 20% reduction in fuel quotas, and increasing virtual meetings as well as other measures to promote Metro travel.

The government has given companies a firm suggestion, including IT and corporate offices, to remove workers from offices for 2 days a week, if possible, for all private companies. The labor department will be looking at compliance with this, which is not binding on private enterprises.

This is intended to relieve congestion, reduce greenhouse gases, reduce commuting costs, etc., and improve working life balance. The hybrid model is being embraced by many employees and experts, who found it successful during the pandemic.

Internal guidelines will be expected to be issued by private companies shortly. Employees should confirm with HR regarding what is considered a productive WFH day and expectations. This policy is a positive step towards sustainable and flexible working culture in the national capital.
