On April 6, 2026, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a new rain and thunderstorm warning to nine states as a western disturbance is still shaping the weather conditions in northern and eastern India. The most affected areas include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, with many districts raised to red/orange-level warnings.
Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-60 km/h should be expected in the states of residents in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. Isolated areas, especially Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have a high likelihood of hailstorms.
Detailed thunderstorms with a wind speed of 50-60 km/h can happen in the states of Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. This erratic weather is likely to persist over the next 24-48 hours and result in a possible break in the road, flooding of the low-lying regions, and destruction of crops that are standing.
IMD has encouraged individuals to keep off outdoor events during thunderstorm times, to strap loosely secured items, and to keep up-to-date with local weather forecasts. There are special warnings against going out during heavy spells, especially to farmers and motorists. This pre-monsoon action is capable of delivering short-term salvage in the common temperature upsurge, but compensation escalates chances of lightning attacks and wild winds.
