In another chilling case, which has brought out once again the jeopardy of possessive relationships, a 22-year-old man in Indore allegedly killed his girlfriend, who was 24 and was categorical about breaking up and focusing on her MBA studies and eventual placements.
The victim, a second-year MBA graduate student Riya Sharma, was almost a year and a half into an affair with the accused. As per the FIR registered at the police station of Vijay Nagar and the confessions that were taken out of the accused during the period of her interrogation, the primary reason behind the murder was her adamant resilience to continue with the relationship.
On Thursday, February 18, the couple met close to her paying guest accommodation in Vijay Nagar at around 9 PM, according to sources in the police.
Through the discussion, she is quoted as saying:
- She needed to be full of career and future campus placements.
- This was starting to build up to an emotional strain and a nuisance to the relationship.
- She had no future she saw with him, and no need to leave him anymore as well.
The accused could not believe the rejection, and thus he lost his temper. His first confession, when asked, indicated that he had a kitchen knife, which he carried around in case things got nasty. Being left is a case of extreme possessiveness, and being angry, he pulled her to a dark lane in a residential society and stabbed her several times in the neck and the chest.
One of the local residents was listening to the screams, and they called the attention of people. She was rushed to Bombay Hospital and was declared dead on arrival since she lost a lot of blood and her vital organs had been damaged.
The accused was apprehended within four hours, allegedly out of his rented flat.
SSP of Indore Manoj Kumar Singh said in the press:
The main motive of this inhuman killing was denial. The accused could not accept the fact that she wanted to terminate the relationship in order to pursue her career and future. He has admitted that he had felt that since she would not be mine, she would not be that of anybody.
The case is enrolled in Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. The murder weapon was found by the police, and the call detail records, WhatsApp chats, and CCTV footage on the territory are under investigation.
The victim's family arrived in Ujjain on February 19 and wants capital punishment. In front of the hospital, her father said,
All she wanted was to create a good future, and she was smarter and worked hard. He killed her dreams since she made her own choice rather than his.
The killing has revived the wrath of the country about offenses fueled by male superiority, denial, and jealousy. Younger hashtags of #JusticeForMBAStudent and #EndToxicPossessiveness are trending on social media.
