Patna: Shocking food safety misconduct in the Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 21896) on March 15, 2026, has gone viral after clients committed live worms and insects in the Amul Dahi and daal served as a constituent of the dinner meal.
Ritesh Kumar Singh, a passenger, created an alarm because he noticed that worms were crawling in his cup of curd. In the footage, the onboard crew compared the complaint to kesar (saffron) first, but passengers presented clear evidence of live insects crawling on various items of their meals. Some of the length of the food was already eaten by some of the co-passengers before they saw the contamination.
The Ministry of Railways acted in a very quick and harsh manner; the penalty of 10 lakh rupees was levied on IRCTC, and a penalty of 50 lakh rupees was levied on the private service provider. There is an immediate termination of the contract of the vendor.
The officials referred to the event as zero tolerance and added that the safety of passengers and food safety on high-end trains such as Vande Bharat are of the utmost priority. The railways have also promised to be vigilant in the future by ensuring that quality checks and monitoring are sure to ensure that such lapses do not occur in the future.
The viral video has led to an anger spurt and recurrence of demand to provide better catering services in the flagship trains in India.
