On Monday, April 13, 2026, a peaceful demonstration by factory workers who wanted to receive higher wages and better benefits turned violent at Noida. It was during Phase 2 and Hosiery Complex and Sector 60 that large crowds assembled of employees of different industrial units and blocked roads and hoisted slogans about pay hikes in the wake of increasing living prices.
This soon got out of control as some protesters began to set fire to vehicles, including at least one vehicle, and had the alleged intention to burn a police van. Security forces were pelted with stones and properties vandalized, causing a lot of damage. Police retaliated by throwing tear gas cannonballs and returning minimum force to clear the crowd, and order was restored. People quickly rushed to the location, and the methods of transport were blocked, causing a standstill in the industrial hub.
Several days of agitation now underline increasing worker dissatisfaction in the region of the NCR. The government is working on the violence as both parties are urged to resolve the wage hike by engaging in dialogue. There are no significant reported injuries.
