The eagerly anticipated IPL 2026 game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens was called off in a disappointing fashion due to constant rain cancelling the game altogether. In 3.4 overs, KKR, with 25/2, stopped play with a blazing start to Punjab's Xavier Bartlett, who bowled out Finn Allen and Cameron Green in successive hits. Although the weather was unfavorable, Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and chose to open the batting irrespective of the unfavorable conditions.
The game was subsequently cancelled because of a wet field by the umpires, and it was the first match in the IPL 2026 to be called off. According to regulations, KKR and PBKS shared one point each.
The outcome brought Punjab Kings to the top in the IPL 2026 points table with 5 points in 3 matches (2 wins, 1 no-result) and placed KKR at the bottom with only 1 point in 3 matches and a dismal net run rate. Viewers and fans at the stadium alike were in frustration as rain spoiled everything once again in Kolkata. The IPL action is resumed as it waits to have clearer skies ahead.
