Renowned activist Sonam Wangchuk has been discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Monday after recovering from his 26-day hunger strike. The Ladakhi innovator and education reformer had undertaken the fast in solidarity with students protesting examination irregularities, including the NEET paper leak issue.

His team confirmed that Wangchuk will first visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before returning to the mountains of Ladakh. He had broken his fast late on July 24 after receiving assurances from the government regarding stricter measures against paper leaks and related reforms.

Wangchuk, known for founding the SECMOL alternative school and pioneering Ice Stupa projects, thanked the hospital staff for their care. His peaceful protest and subsequent recovery have drawn widespread attention, highlighting his continued commitment to education, environment and social causes. The activist is now set to resume his work in the high-altitude regions of Ladakh.
