A section of a road built under Indore’s Smart City project at a reported cost of around Rs 40 crore cracked open during high-pressure testing of a newly laid water supply pipeline near Gorakund Square. Water burst through the surface, dislodging paver blocks and creating a large pit, as captured in viral CCTV footage that showed traffic nearby.

No injuries occurred, and authorities quickly repaired the site for temporary traffic flow. Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) officials stated that a 150-meter stretch had been left with a temporary bitumen surface pending pipeline interconnectivity work delayed by encroachments. No final completion certificate or full payment had been issued for that portion.

The incident has raised public questions about construction quality and durability of the project, which aimed to support 24-hour water supply. Officials confirmed permanent concrete restoration will follow full testing and commissioning of the line. Local representatives have called for an investigation into the matter.
