In a horrendous story, Sarabjit Kaur, an assistant sub-inspector who was stationed as Mahila Mitra (women's helpdesk) in Faridkot Sadar Police Station, was suspended on April 15, 2026, after a video filmed in the Dogar Basti area of the district showing her tying her 5-year-old granddaughter to an iron gate went viral.

The girl has been said to be tied at the hands and feet with fabric and abandoned on the overheated street as the parents take holidays in Portugal. The crying girl captured the eye of neighbors who rushed in and liberated her and then captured the dreadful picture.

Pragya Jain, the senior superintendent of police, Faridkot, took cognizance on the spot and suspended the 55-year-old ASI. The District Child Welfare Committee has also been approached in regard to the issue.

The event has raised many controversies on social media, where people are finding it hard to understand how a police officer who is supposed to protect the safety of women can treat a minor so cruelly.
