The Bharatiya Janata Party removed Amit Malviya as head of its national IT and social media operations on August 17, 2026, ending his 11-year tenure that began in 2015 under then-president Amit Shah. Chhattisgarh leader Deepak Mhaskey has been appointed Social Media Convenor, supported by four new co-convenors.

The change forms part of a broader organisational reshuffle under new party president Nitin Nabin. While the BJP issued no official reason for Malviya’s exit, reports link it to criticism following Gen Z-led protests (associated with the Cockroach Janta Party) over issues such as the NEET paper leak. Party observers and RSS ideologue Ratan Sharda had flagged the IT cell’s perceived disconnect from ground realities and a tendency to troll citizens rather than address concerns. Some sources also cited unhappiness over certain recent posts.

Malviya, who helped expand BJP’s digital machinery and served as national spokesperson and West Bengal co-incharge, congratulated Mhaskey and the new team, calling the appointments timely for the party’s future outreach.
