A lower-level IPS officer, Sumathi, the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, went undercover at the Dilsukhnagar bus stop on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12.30 AM to 3.30 AM to get a first-hand look at the reality of the safety of women.

In three hours, almost 40 men approached her while standing beside her without any security in sight, with the exception of her, who was an ordinary woman. There were so many who were drunk and seemed to be under the influence of ganja, making advances, vulgar remarks, and attempts to engage her over and over again. The majority were young learners and working professionals.

The cops weren't aware the men were top officers. Later, a police team recognized their identities and invited them for counseling sessions, cautioning them in their sexual attitude toward women in open areas.

This nighttime activity has raised serious questions about the nighttime safety of women in Hyderabad. Commissioner Sumathi's hands-on attitude has won praise for her dedication to strong policing at the docks and helping to keep women safe in the city.
