The chief accused Sonam Raghuvanshi in the honeymoon massacre of her Indore-based husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, has been released on bail by a Shillong court. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) took into account the failure of police to explain the reasons for her arrest, which breached her rights and undermined her defense.

On May 23, 2025, Raja was last seen in Sohra (Cherrapunji) during a honeymoon trip. His hacked body was found in a gorge near a waterfall on June 2nd. The police accused Sonam and her alleged mistress Raj Kushwaha and three others of murdering her husband.

Sonam was arrested with her co-accused from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The court granted bail on stringent conditions of a personal bond of ₹50,000, appearing before the court every month, and not leaving the state without the court's permission.

The victim's family members were shocked by the bail and asked for a CBI investigation. Meghalaya Police has said that the investigation will continue despite the bail being granted.
