In a fresh terror incident in Jammu & Kashmir, suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party at Lal Chowk in Anantnag district on Wednesday afternoon. Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi, deployed for Amarnath Yatra security, was critically injured and later succumbed at Government Medical College Hospital.

The attack occurred around 12:30 pm. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to nab the attackers. No group has claimed responsibility yet.

This incident comes amid heightened security for the ongoing Amarnath pilgrimage. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and assured strict action against those involved.

The valley has seen increased militant activity recently. Police have appealed to citizens not to share unverified information or CCTV footage that could hinder investigations. The family of the deceased officer has been provided all necessary support. The probe is ongoing as tensions remain high in the region.
