The TCS Nashik sexual harassment and forced religious conversion scandal has gotten worse with alarming revelations regarding the procedures, which the company uses to deal with complaints inside the company. In one case, Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik reported that a victim who wanted to report sexual abuse was allegedly advised by a senior HR and operations head: "These things happen," and he defended the accused rather than the victim.
The offensive comment is said to have deterred the woman from making an official complaint. The BPO unit has recorded nine FIRs against various female (and one male) employees alleging sexual harassment, molestation, coercion, and efforts to convert them to their religion.
There are eight or more employees who are team leads and female HR/operations managers among other employees who are arrested. One of the HR-related accused is on the run. The probing of the alleged organized nature of the alleged racket involving a number of years is being conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
TCS has terminated the implicated employees, closed the Nashik BPO, moved its employees to work at home, and reinstated its zero-tolerance stance as it collaborates with the authorities. The case has inspired uproar and ongoing investigations by NCW and other authorities.
