In a shocking incident, two MBA students — a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man — from a prestigious South Mumbai management college died after allegedly consuming MDMA (ecstasy) at a techno concert held at NESCO Centre in Goregaon East on April 11, 2026. One more 25-year-old girl (a part of the group) remains critical in the ICU.
The attack victims belonged to a bigger crowd of students who were present at the event of seeing the Italian techno duo 999999999 (9x9). One of the students took a pill prior to arrival at the venue and another during the concert, police said. They reported feeling ill; they were taken to the hospital but were not able to be rescued.
The police in Mumbai have so far arrested six individuals, including the event organizer, the head of security, one of the alleged drug dealers who was caught in possession of ecstasy pills, and two other MBA students, who have been charged with peddling the drugs. The case has brought up the issue of the drug menace at music events as well as safety measures at large parties. Inquiries are in progress to follow the entire supply chain.
