On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued the Bharatiya Janata Party Bekhasyata Patra (election pledge) in front of the 2026 assembly election in West Bengal at Kolkata. Themed around the reconstruction of Sonar Bangla, the document will transform a state that is more of despondency to development as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Viksit Bharat.
Among the highlights are 3,000 monthly grants of cash to women and the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and 7th Pay Commission within six months of government formation, a hard-line policy of detecting, deleting, and deporting invaders and punishing the corrupt with jail. The employment of youth, welfare of farmers, empowerment of women, revitalizing of industry, and full implementation of central initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat are also touted in the manifesto.
Shah branded the 15-year rule of TMC a nightmare of corruption and appeasement, promising that a BJP government would bring back hope, security, and prosperity. The Sankalp Patra will make the BJP the formidable opponent of the Trinamool Congress with the 2026 polls on the cards. These drastic pledges would be put to the test in the months to come as Bengal tries to see whether they appeal to the voters.
