On March 17, 2026, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) released its list of candidates to run in 291 seats in the West Bengal assembly races before two-phase elections on April 23 and 29. Addressing the party through a video conference, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with nephew Abhishek Banerjee, affirmed that the party will contest 291 seats, while three Darjeeling hills constituencies will be left to an ally of the party, BGPM.
Mamata will face off with BJP Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who was the candidate of the BJP there with Nandigram (where he defeated her in 2021). TMC opposed him without giving him a chance in Nandigram, naming a former Adhikari aide named Pabitra Kar against him.
The list keeps several incumbent MLAs, loses a few to handle the anti-incumbency, and has actors such as Soham Chakraborty. The STOM member Mamata claimed that she would surpass 226 seats with a vote focused on gender, SC/ST, and minorities. This preconditions a tough fight with TMC that seeks the fourth term against a strong offensive of the BJP.
