Congress leader and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday became frisky with the Modi government, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize to lakhs of students hit by multiple problems in education.

In a series on X, the Indian leader mentioned the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak that impacted more than a crore of engineering aspirants and the low number of marks in the class 12 CBSE result due to a defective On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system. In a series on X, Gandhi spoke about the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak affecting over 22 lakh aspirants for engineering courses and about low marks received by students in the Class 12 CBSE results due to a faulty On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation system that was rolled out suddenly without prior preparation for Class 9 students from July 1 onwards.

“First the NEET paper leakage of 22 lakh students, now the JEE leakage. From 22 lakh NEET students' paper leakage to the leakage in JEE paper. Then the CBSE Class 12 students, who had to take part in an unexpected grade-checking exercise for the broken computer board of the education system, now have lakhs of CBSE Class 9 students, who were suddenly asked to learn a new language. He has dubbed Dharmendra Pradhan's education ministry the “department of disasters” and demanded it resign.

Gandhi spoke directly to the prime minister, “Prime Minister Modi ji—can you at least apologize to the lakhs of children whose lives you and your minister have destroyed?”

The remarks take place as part of the CBI probe into the NEET data leakage and the general hue and cry over CBSE results, reigniting political discussion on the issue of accountability in education. To date, the government has denied that investigations are underway to ensure that students are treated fairly. This new line has garnered a lot of attention on social media and in the political world.
