A top leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Sheikh Yusuf Afridi, believed to be close to world terrorist Hafiz Saeed, was killed by unknown gunmen in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.
The murder was confirmed by security sources, who claimed it was a possible murder bid. Described as a Maulana, Afridi, a LeT recruiter, was trailed by his killers before being gunned down. Although no one has claimed responsibility, Pakistani police have begun investigating the crime.
Afridi was reportedly involved in recruitment and sending jihadi outfits in activities against India. The killing comes on top of other targeted killings of LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) terrorists within Pakistan in recent months.
This has raised questions about the possibility of power struggles or foreign actions against Pakistan-based terrorist outfits. Indian intelligence is keeping a watchful eye, as Afridi was involved in multiple cross-border terrorism outfits.
