Nainital police forcibly took a vehicle belonging to a son of a BJP MLA of Fatehpur (UP), Rahul Patel, when he played an obnoxious hooter in holiday traffic jams and when the SDM told him to do so. (34 words)

The busy Mall Road in Nainital recorded a dramatic event when a traffic jam occurred, with a heavy throng of tourists, when the son of Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Rajendra Patel of Fatehpur, Rahul Patel, ostensibly used a loud hooter (siren) installed in his white Toyota Fortuner and shoved through the congestion.

The next individual who stopped in front of me was Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khaliq, whose car was immediately ahead, and assumed it was an emergency. In the situation where the hooter was kept on even when there was no need, the SDM pulled over the SUV. This was staked by a hot-tempered altercation, and it is said that Rahul attempted to impose himself by stating that my dad is an MLA.

The Nainital Police came in and immediately provided a challan in the case of violation of the Motor Vehicles Act for using a hooter/siren (only allowed in the case of emergency vehicles) and confiscated the Fortuner. More searches, however, found that the driver was unable to supply valid vehicle documents or a driving license.

The car was subsequently released after Rahul had been able to make legal formalities in the evening. The very quick response by the administration is strongly admired as a courageous move towards lending credence to the fact that in a well-known tourist attraction facility like Nainital, any political favors in the form of entitlements as well as in the form of misappropriated political loyalties have been resisted.

This episode has triggered the debate on equal application of traffic regulations to all citizens regardless of their backgrounds.
